about

A hole in the sky, a god-awful eruption and consequent rift in the space-time continuum spits out pushes through gives birth (again?) to a new composition of musical meanderings in album form. Tubers. Anachronous. From where did it arrive? Outer space? Inner? From whence? The past future relevant present? Are Tubers spacemen aeronautic angelic? Hunter-gatherer root and bulb harvesters? What do they believe in? What kind of idea are they trying to convey? Of what exactly does their pre- and post- categorization consist? We’ll see what can be revealed.

Tubers. Misplaced in Time. Yet if we deconstruct the myth of the constancy and fluidity of space and time, if we find the workings of the universe permeated by certain quantum leaps, by discontinuities, then Tubers and their sequential ambiguity could be allowed to emerge out of a hazy mist and their rhythm and melody rightfully revealed. If we give what was once a trinity its duly required fourth term (in this case in the form of second guitar), we may be left with a justified sense of this quaternity’s own legitimate brand of punk Rock and Roll.

Music itself is the bending of the pre-supposed axis of time according to a subjective arrangement of noise. Angularity perhaps? Well then, this temporal discontinuity certainly bends. Occasional discordance? Well then, the strived-for dynamicity has been achieved. And that’s a good thing. It moves as all authentic life-forces are wont to do. It bespeaks transformation and evolution, development towards an uncertain form, function of which as of yet undetermined. Wings are clipped in order to fly, circumstances and context taken into account in order to change. Change ourselves. Change the world. We adapt to external influences and influence accordingly.

What we thought at first was an explosion in the sky, a ripping at the seams of space-time, turns out to be a thunderstorm. The drums roar. The guitars like lightning electrify. The bass is the reverberation, the earth and foundations shaken. Tubers find themselves right where they are. Past future present: all arbitrary designations. Pre/post punk/ hardcore descriptions meaningless. Tubers, like their namesakes, nestle into the contours of their context, as both product and process, as comfortable flowing down-river as being firmly planted in earth. Political conviction, personal ambition, metaphysical speculation, electrolyte hydration, all coalesce and swirl into an audible result. Anachronous is so and is not, as any new cultural artifact that plans to survive should be.
